Suspend Productions produces original works of “Circus Theatre,” and seeks to evoke the same sense of wonder and joy people of all ages experience under the big top, while combining theatre, circus, and dance, to tell stories that explore the heart and mind.
How it Started
In the Summer of 2016, a group of circus artists, actors, dancers, choreographers, and playwrights realized they had a shared interest in the possibilities of mixed media works that range across every discipline in the performing arts.
Suspend Productions was formed, and began operating out of Suspend, a movement studio dedicated to aerial arts and cirque fitness.
Orpheus: A Silent Circus
LEO Weekly called it “a richly satisfying piece of storytelling through the means of dance and circus arts…Here’s hoping we see more of this.”
Arts Louisville said: “We clearly exist in a moment of seminal transition for what “circus” means to society now and moving into the future. Companies like Suspend Productions are bringing unique theatrical experiences to audiences while shedding new light on the traditional circus arts.
A Tale of Love and Tarot
Arts Louisville said: “this collaboration of written script, dance, and aerial movement in A Tale of Love and Tarot strikes me as nothing less than innovative amongst local companies. ….what Eli Keel and his team are attempting here is a deeper, more meaningful integration of contrasting forms.”
WFPL said: “It’s a little less Barnum and Bailey — a little more Cirque du Soleil meets the modern dance troupe Pilobolus. And it’s definitely not the same old song and dance.”
